This post is for babies who have completed 8 months and just starting their 9th month. In this month, I gave 3 meals – breakfast, lunch & dinner !
Below is my baby’s schedule for this month. This schedule is just for your reference. Please don’t try to fit your baby in this schedule. Let your baby decide his/her schedule to nap. And you choose a wise time (to feed solids) that suits you and your baby.

- Will do tadka/tempering & introduce little amounts of homemade chilli powder or sambar powder(link) & green chilli(without seeds, just for flavor) this month..
- Other new spices – Mustard, Cinnamon, Ajwain(Omam)(can give oma water after completing 6 months).
- Nuts & seeds – Walnuts, Sesame seeds, Melon seeds.
- I started giving fish and Mutton soup this month.

Day 4 | ![]() Pongal - Soak 1 cup raw rice + 1 tbsp moong dal for 30 mins, add 4 cups water, asafoetida, roasted cumin & pepper powders, 1 piece peeled ginger, 2 curry leaves, olive oil , lil ghee, powdered cashews and pressure cook for 1 whistle in high and simmer for 10 mins. Separate baby portion, then add salt and temper for adults.. Radish sambar - Soak toor dal for 30 mins. Pressure cook(5 whistles) dal, small onions, tomato, radish, sesame oil, asafoetida, turmeric & roasted cumin powders. Mash well & temper with mustard seeds and 1 curry leaf. Used the same dal for our sambar too. | ![]() Broccoli 🥦 carrot 🥕 rice - Pan cooked broccoli florets and few carrot pieces in water till immersing level with pinch of asafoetida and 1/4 pinch sambar powder. Once cooked and there is very lil water in it, add cooked rice and mash all with potato masher. U can also steam the veggies in pressure cooker by placing wet vegetables inside a closed bowl, and lil water outside the bowl. | ![]() White Rava upma - In sim, Sesame oil, 6 mustard seeds, 1 curry leaf, 1 chopped small onion, pinch hing. After a min, add 1/4 tomato chopped without skin & seeds. Once mushy, add 1 tbsp white rava and fry for few seconds. Add hot boiling water(3/4 cup). Stir well and cook closed until all water is absorbed. Open and stir often. Switch off & Keep closed for 10 mins. Open & throw away curry leaf. If u feel tomato is lumpy, u shall mash it with potato masher and feed. This tastes just like our usual upma minus salt. Baby just loved it.. |
Day 5 | ![]() Fruit bowl - Avocado 🥑 and watermelon. Gave 🍉 strips as finger food. There was little gagging initially but by the 3rd strip, she started eating beautifully by herself.. The best ever finger food, I would say 👌Get a seeded watermelon and cut into wedges. Select the top seedless part of the wedges and cut into thin strips. | ![]() When I don’t have cooked rice as today(I made one pot meal for us), my khichdi powders come handy. Made carrot khichdi using rice + fried gram powder. Click here for recipe. Same as in recipe, but just tempered with mustard seeds and chopped small onion before adding carrot. | ![]() Wheat dosa with tomato chutney. Just fried onion 🧅 + tomato 🍅 and ground in mixie. U can add fried red chilies and salt for adults. No water and no tempering. |
Day 6 | ![]() Sweet potato 🍠 Peeled, chopped & pan-cooked as the baby was sleeping.. | ![]() Dhal soup gravy - Pressure cook 1 tbsp moong dal, 1 cup water, 1 ripe tomato chopped, 1 garlic clove, 1/2 chopped carrot, pinch each of asafoetida, turmeric, pepper & roasted cumin powders for 4 to 5 whistles. Mash well. In a pan, lil sesame oil, 1 small cinnamon stick, 2 curry leaves, cooked & mashed dal. Let it boil until desired consistency. This curry will be slightly sweet & babies will love it. Goes well with rice, chapathi, dosa, idli and idiyappam. | ![]() Idiyappam with same curry from lunch. Idiyappam is so soft and when mixed with curry, it becomes too soft. Baby loved it and had one more idiyappam.. Soft Idiyappam - Idiyappam flour is just like making millet flour in this post(link). Just replace Foxtail millet/Thinai with raw rice/Pacharisi. After grinding to flour, dry roast in low flame until hot to touch. Cool down and store in refrigerator. Boil water with lil oil, pour boiling water to rice flour and mix to form soft dough. Squeeze using idiyappam press over a cloth on idli plate. Once water in idlipot comes to rolling boil, place idli plates with idiyappam and steam just for 5 mins. Immediately transfer it to a hot pack. Too much of steaming will make idiyappam rubbery. |
Day 7 | ![]() Whole black urad dal porridge. Used my mom’s urad kali powder.This powder recipe is in my instagram post(link). I just took a tsp of powder mixed well with 1/2 cup water. Added a pinch of roasted and ground sesame seeds powder to it and cooked in sim for 10 mins. Added ghee at the end.. | ![]() Cauliflower + peas rice. Pan cooked both veggies with water till immersing level, 1/2 chopped garlic, 1 pinch asafoetida, 1/2 pinch turmeric powder, 1/4 pinch sambar powder. Cook closed in med flame. Once cooked soft, add cooked rice and mash all with potato masher. Add ghee and feed. | ![]() Red poha/aval porridge - Wash & soak a tbsp of red aval for 20 mins. Mash it well with hand/potato masher and cook in low-med flame with 1/4 cup water, and a pinch of roasted cumin/jeera powder. Cook for 5 mins until it thickens. Feed warm. |
Day 8 | ![]() Grated raw Apple 🍎 and banana 🍌 hand mashed.. | ![]() Beets rice- Pan cooked grated beets with water more than immersing level, 1/4 pinch each of turmeric, roasted cumin & sambar powders. Close & cooked for 10 mins in med flame 🔥. Once done, drained cooked water(soup) for night. Added cooked rice to the pan and mashed well with cooked beets. Day 9 | ![]() Sprouted Ragi porridge - Click here for recipe. | ![]() chow chow moong dal rice - Pressure cooked chow chow, moong dal, tomato, garlic, asafoetida, turmeric, roasted cumin powders for 4 whistles. In coconut oil, mustard seeds, curry leaf, 1 small tail part of green chilli without seeds, chopped small onion, cooked dal with veg. Switch off in 1 min. Mash with cooked rice, add ghee. | ![]() Idli with carrot chutney 🥕 Oil, small onions, grated carrots. Fry one by one, add water and cook closed for 10 mins. Once cooked and dry, add lil grated coconut and switch off in 1 min. Cool down and grind with water. For elder kids, add fried red chilli, a tbsp of roasted cashews/peanuts & rock salt while grinding.. |
Day 10 | ![]() Wheat porridge. Dry roast 1 tbsp wheat flour in low flame for 2 mins. Let it cool.Then add 1/3 cup water. I added homemade melon seeds powder(just dried, roasted & powdered muskmelon seeds). cook for 10 mins in low flame until shiny. Lastly add ghee. Baby didn’t like this porridge. so, mashed banana and added to it. Then she had it happily.. | ![]() Spinach + broccoli rice. Pan cooked broccoli with water, asafoetida and 1/4 pinch sambar powder for 10 mins in med flame. Once cooked, added ghee, cooked rice and mashed spinach(the one I made for us today(link), minus salt, tamarind & chilli for baby). Mashed all with potato masher. | ![]() Kal dosai and mint, coriander chutney. Sesame oil - whole urad dal without skin, red chilli. Once dal browned, add tamarind, coriander & Mint leaves. Once leaves shrink, add grated coconut. Grind without chilli & tamarind for baby. Then grind for others with salt. Add lil water while grinding. Temper with mustard, Urad dal and curry leaves. Lastly pour the tempering with mustard & curry leaves without urad dal to baby portion. No need to do 2 tadka. U can use the same for both. |
Day 11 | ![]() Aval sambar pongal - Wash 1 tbsp aval thrice and soak(keep closed) in 2 tbsp water for 15 mins. In sim, ghee, pinch each of asafoetida, roasted cumin & pepper powders, curry leaf, 1 ginger piece, 1 tbsp cooked moongdal, cooked carrot(optional) with 2 tbsp dal water(I used the dal that I cooked for our tiffin sambar with tomato, carrot, turmeric & asafoetida). Add soaked Aval and let it cook in dal water in sim. Lastly, remove ginger & curry leaf., mash with potato masher. Yumm.. | ![]() Curd rice - Just mashed Matta rice with homemade fresh curd. Potato fry - Pressure cooked 🥔 for 3 to 4 whistles. Peeled, chopped. In coconut oil, mustard, 1 crushed garlic with skin, potato, pinch each of asafoetida, turmeric, roasted cumin & pepper powders. Roast in sim until masalas blend well. Don’t make it crispy. Remove baby portion, add more pepper powder & salt & roast more for others.. Baby loves this combo. Click here for link. | ![]() Tomato rasam rice with carrots. Steamed carrots in pressure cooker for 6 whistles. Keep wet carrots in a closed bowl inside cooker with little water outside the bowl. Click here for Tomato rasam recipe. | ![]() Aappam with tomato rasam. I soaked the pieces of aappam in rasam for 5 to 10 mins and then mashed well with hand. |
Day 13 | ![]() Avocado 🥑 + grated raw apple 🍎 .. | ![]() Green gram rice mash. Click here for recipe. | ![]() Wheat rava khichdi. In Pressure cooker, lil oil, mustard, 2 curry leaves, small tail part of green chilli without seeds, chopped small onion, 1/4 tomato chopped without skin & seeds, chopped carrot, 1/2 pinch asafoetida, 1/2 tbsp rava, 1/2 cup water. Pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles. Open, take out chilli & curry leaves and mash with potato masher if required. If it’s lil watery, u shall keep in high flame for 2 mins.. If ur baby can not handle this texture, u can dry fry wheat rava for 2 to 3 mins, cool down, give few pulses in mixie and store it in airtight container. Use that fine wheat rava in this recipe. |
Day 14 | ![]() Barley porridge with plums purée. Just made barley porridge(Click here for recipe). Cooled down and added peeled, chopped half plums while blending in mixie. | ![]() Rice mixed with instant mor kulambu and cauliflower fry... 👉Mor kulambu - In sim, coconut oil, mustard, jeera, tail part of a small green chilli without seeds, curry leaves, finely chopped garlic, crushed ginger, asafoetida, chopped small onions. Switch off once onions are translucent.. Add turmeric powder, chopped coriander leaves and fresh curd(whisk well until smooth & add). Mix all..Prepare it half an hour before feeding for the flavors to infuse. Strain using filter or hand and mix with mashed rice. 👉Pressure cooked wet cauliflower in a closed bowl with little water outside the bowl for 3 whistles. In lil coconut oil, in sim, pinch each of turmeric, asafoetida, roasted cumin & pepper powders, steamed cauliflower. Fry till masalas blend well. | ![]() Wheat banana dosai.. Whisk wheat flour and water without lumps. Batter shud neither be watery nor be too thick. Fork mash banana without lumps and add to batter, mix well and make little thick dosas with lil sesame oil. Cook on both sides in low-medium flame. The dosa will puff up well. I gave small pieces of dosa as finger food and she ate it all by herself.. My baby loves this dosa .. This dosa will be so soft. Banana is just optional. I added one banana for 6 dosas.. |

Click here for recipe. | ![]() Idli with Kadhamba chutney.. Sesame oil , 2 red chillies. Fry and take out. Then add 1 big onion chopped, 4 garlic, 1 inch ginger, pinch tamarind, 1 green chilli. Fry for 3 minutes, take out green chilli & tamarind..Then add 2 small tomatoes chopped. Once tomato turns mushy, add few mint and coriander leaves. Once leaves shrink, add 1/4 cup grated coconut & switch off in 1 min. Cool down and grind for baby without chillies, tamarind, ginger & garlic. Then add the rest along with rock salt & grind for others. Add little water while grinding.. Temper with mustard & urad dal for others and pour just the mustard with little oil tempering at the last to baby portion. No need to do 2 separate tadkas.. |
Day 16 | ![]() Oothappam with yellow capsicum chutney. In Sesame oil fry 2 red chillies and keep aside, In same oil, chop and add add 1 onion 🧅 , 1 or 2 garlic cloves, 1 yellow capsicum and 1 tomato 🍅. Fry well until cooked. Cool down and grind little for baby without garlic & chilli. Then add the rest with rock salt and grind for others. No water and no tempering.. | ![]() veg soup rice - In pressure cooker, lil butter, 1/4 bay leaf, 1 finely chopped small garlic clove, 1 chopped small onion. Fry for a minute, remove bay leaf, add 1 cup water, 1/2 tomato without chopping, 1/2 of a small carrot 🥕 chopped, 4 beans chopped, 2 tsp moong dal(soaked for 20 mins), pinch each of asafoetida, turmeric, roasted cumin & pepper powders, 2 mint leaves(optional). U shall add other veggies like peas, cauli/broccoli. Pressure cook for 6 whistles. Open, remove the tomato skin & crush tomato roughly with hand. Take some veggies along with the soup and pour into a bowl through a strainer. Press well with spoon to extract all soup from it. Save the soup for dinner and throw away that strained veggies. Day 17 | ![]() Sweet potato 🍠 .. Pressure cooked whole sweet potato with water till immersing level for 2 whistles in high flame. Drained water, cooled, peeled & chopped. I always keep a bowl of water nearby & often wet my fingers well while feeding sweet potato to avoid dryness & gagging.. | ![]() Rice with Tomato curry 🍅 and cooked peas..Curry recipe in Dinner. 👉Steam wet peas in pressure cooker in a closed bowl with little water outside the bowl for 5 to 6 whistles.. Do not give peas as such as the round shape might cause choking.. Press with fingers to change the shape. I peeled the skin after steaming, pressed with fingers. Mashed well with fingers while feeding.. | ![]() Dosa with reheated tomato curry 🍅 from lunch.. I mix dosa well with the curry & feed. 👉Tomato curry🍅 - Cut tomato into 2 and boil in a open pan with 1 cup water for 5 mins in medium flame. Cool down, remove the tomato skin(comes out easily). Grind tomato with 2 tsp grated coconut and 1/2 of a small sambar onion/shallot. In a pan, in lil sesame oil, mustard, 2 curry leaves, tomato cooked water, ground paste, 1 uncut coriander stalk with leaves, pinch turmeric and 1/2 pinch sambar powder. Let it boil in medium flame for 10 mins. Switch off. Take some curry without the leaves & add to potato masher mashed cooked rice.. |
Day 18 | ![]() Oats porridge using organic old fashioned rolled oats - click here for recipe. I didn’t use fig and milk. Pls follow last point in Tips in the post for babies below 1 year. | ![]() Dal rice with pink radish- Soaked toor dal for 30 mins. Pressure cooked with water above immersing level, cut radish, 1 chopped tomato, asafoetida, turmeric powder, lil sesame oil for 4 to 5 whistles or until cooked. In a pan, lil oil,mustard. Once spluttered, simmer & add 1 curry leaf, 1/2 small onion & 1/4 garlic finely chopped, lil asafoetida & roasted cumin powder, 1 stalk coriander leaves uncut, pour 1 tbsp cooked dal with 2 tbsp water. Switch off in 1 minute. Transfer to a bowl and keep closed. Just before feeding, remove the leaves, add cooked rice, melted ghee & mash well with potato masher. | ![]() A perfect lazy day dinner 😂 Rice porridge 🥣 Just added water to afternoon’s leftover Matta rice and cooked again for 5 mins until thickened.. Day 20 | ![]() Chapathi soaked in coconut milk.. No banana and no chutney.. As she pooped thrice today, I just wanted to keep it simple.. Gave small pieces and she made chewing actions (No teeth yet) and ate happily.. Wheat dosa is so soft & moist and so no gagging at all.. Wheat dosa is her first favorite food 😁 |
Day 21 | ![]() Fruits - Papaya and watermelon 🍉 sticks. Hand mashed and fed.. Gave few 🍉 sticks as finger food. If ur baby can’t handle the sticks, just finely chop with knife and give.. | ![]() Beetroot rice - Grate a big disc of beetroot, add to a bowl with 1/3 cup water, 1/2 pinch each of turmeric and sambar powders. Close with lid and place inside a pressure cooker with little water outside the bowl and cook for 5 to 6 whistles. Open, drain the water for dinner. Add cooked rice to cooked beets with lil ghee and mash with potato masher. Squeeze few drops of lemon juice 🍋 and feed. Baby will love it 👌 | ![]() Idly with reheated beets soup from afternoon.. |
Day 22 | ![]() Red aval/poha porridge cooked with a pinch of grated walnut. Wash & soak a tbsp of red aval for 20 mins. Mash it well with hand/potato masher and cook in low-med flame with 1/4 cup water, pinch each of roasted cumin/jeera powder & grated walnut. Cook for 5 mins until it thickens. Feed warm. With walnuts, I have introduced all nuts to my baby now. | ![]() Toor dal rice with carrots steamed in pressure cooker(5 whistles inside a closed bowl). Mash carrots with hand while feeding. For Dal rice, pressure cook Toor dal for 5 whistles with tomato, small onions, garlic, asafoetida, turmeric, roasted cumin powder & sesame oil. For tadka, in coconut oil, mustard, asafoetida, tail of green chilli, curry leaf & uncut coriander stalk with leaves. | ![]() Idli with Coconut coriander chutney - sesame oil , 1 tbsp whole urad dal without skin, dry red chilli, pinch tamarind. Day 23 | ![]() Sprouted Ragi porridge- Click here for recipe. | ![]() Broccoli sambar rice - Pressure cook(4 whistles) soaked moongdal, broccoli, tomato, garlic, turmeric, asafoetida, 1/2 pinch each of roasted cumin & sambar powders, sesame oil. Once cooked, mash well with potato masher. Temper in coconut oil, mustard, curry leaf, mashed dal..switch off in 1 min. U shall use it with idly, dosa, chapathi, pongal, rice.. Replace broccoli with any veggies.. | ![]() Dosa mixed with tomato chutney.. As many of u ask how I feed dosa to her, I clicked how I mix to feed her.. Initially I used to crumble more to imitate idli texture. Gradually changed the texture and now with small chunks. Soon, will change over to pieces.. This way, baby will learn to eat without gagging..For chutney, Just fried some red chillies, onions 🧅 and tomatoes🍅. Grind for baby without chillies and for others with salt & chillies. No water & no tempering.. |
Day 24 | ![]() Fruit bowl - Grated Apple and Organic Navel Orange chunks | ![]() Ashgourd/vellai poosanikkai sambar with rice - same recipe as yesterday but used ash gourd and soaked toor dal.. I thought to do mor kuzhambu with it.. but curd was not set as I forgot to switch on oven light 😑 .. so, went with sambar.. | ![]() Carrot + Wheat rava khichdi - same recipe as in day 13 of this month . Just added a pinch of turmeric powder extra.. |
Day 25 | ![]() 👉Ragi mini idli - 1 cup Ragi flour, 1/2 cup idli rice, 1/4 cup urad dal, 1/4 cup poha, 1/8 tsp fenugreek seeds.. First mix Ragi flour with little water in a bowl.. grind each other ingredients separately(but urad & methi seeds together) and add to the bowl.. Mix well and ferment overnight. Use grinder if using whole Ragi.. 👉Mint + coriander Chutney- Sesame oil , urad dal, red chilli, pinch tamarind..Fry and keep aside.Add mint & coriander leaves. Once shrunk, add grated coconut.. Grind all without chilli and tamarind for baby.. Then add both along with salt for others and temper with mustard, Urad & curry leaves. | ![]() Rice with tomato rasam.. Click here for recipe. Pressure cook soaked Moong dal, water, turmeric, roasted jeera powder, asafoetida, garlic, tomato, small onions, chayote squash for 5 whistles.. In coconut oil, mustard, curry leaf, nearly half green chilli without seeds, 1 uncut coriander stalk with leaves, mashed dal & veggies. Switch off in 1 min. Day 28 | ![]() Lotus seeds/ Phool makhana porridge - Click here for recipe. After few spoons, I added little mashed banana to it & then she ate without complaints 😀 | ![]() Carrot rice - In lil coconut oil, mustard, curry leaf, nearly half green chilli without seeds, 1 chopped small onion, 1 small garlic clove grated, 1/2 carrot 🥕 grated, pinch each of turmeric & roasted cumin powders, 1/2 cup water. Cook closed in medium flame for 10 mins. Remove chilli & curry leaf. Add cooked rice, lil ghee, mash with potato masher. | ![]() Mini idlis with Shallots chutney.. Sesame oil , red chilli, Urad dal, shallots, garlic, tamarind, mint & coriander leaves.. Cool down & grind without chilli & tamarind for baby, adding lil water. Grind with chilli, tamarind & rock salt for others. Temper with mustard , urad & curry leaves.. |

Day 30 | ![]() Paniyaram with coconut milk. After the click, mashed it well with hand and soaked in the milk for 10 mins. Used the same idli batter for paniyaram. We don’t want crispy paniyarams or dosai for babies. For softer versions, just add poha while grinding batter.. Look at the soft and porous backside of paniyaram (4th pic in link).. For 4 cups rice, 1 cup urad, 1/2 tsp fenugreek, u shall add 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup poha. Just soak separately and grind with rice. | ![]() Tomato rasam 🍅 with steamed Salmon fish.. Just steamed plain fish fillet in idli pot (pic 6 in link) for 20 mins without any spices as anyways I mashed it with rasam rice & fed her. She loved it. As it is first time, I just fed very little as shown in pic. You shall select any fish with less or no bones.
