Fenugreek seeds are believed to increase milk production. Traditionally, fenugreek/methi is considered to cool the body temperature and so consumed during menstrual period too.
Also abiding to the tradition, Pregnant ladies are served with this fenugreek water(Vendhaya Kasahayam) once a day in their last trimester and still continued as postnatal drink for milk production.
Fenugreek might cause bloating/gas problem as a side-effect and so it is always clubbed with Jeera water which alleviates these problems and also aids digestion.
Recently, I read that fenugreek water when drunk in empty stomach in the morning will keep the body healthy by reducing cholesterol and preventing diabetes & hypertension.
Fenugreek Tonic Water – Ingredients
Fenugreek seeds – 2 tsp
Jaggery – 1 tbsp (optional)
Water – 1 cup
1. Add Fenugreek seeds and Jaggery to a cup of water.2. Let it boil until the water is halved. It might take 5 to 8 mins. Cool it and then filter the seeds. Enjoy this healthy drink!
- You could skip jaggery while cooking and add honey while drinking.
- If you could drink without jaggery/honey, better opt for it. As you are not advised to take too much sweet especially in the last trimester as it might cause gestational diabetes and this being a daily drink, you could better avoid sweet.
