I have already posted homemade porridge powders with “Rice & fried gram”(link) and “Rice & moong dal”(link). This carrot khichdi is a quick wholesome meal to prepare in jiffy with any one of these homemade porridge powders. You shall replace carrot with any available fresh veggies or greens.. Just the chopping/grating, water quantity and cooking time might differ as per veggies. But, the addition of porridge powder part will remain the same.
- Carrot - ¼
- Ghee - ⅛ tsp
- Water - ¼ cup + ¼ cup
- Homemade porridge powder - 1 tsp(levelled)
- Turmeric powder - a pinch
- Take ¼ carrot. Wash well and peel out the muddy marks of the skin. Grate the carrot using fine grater. In a dry pan, add little ghee.
- Saute grated carrots in ghee for 10 seconds and then add ¼ cup water.
- Cook closed in medium-high flame for 10 mins. Meanwhile, in a bowl, add a teaspoon of homemade "Rice & moong dal porridge powder" and ¼ cup water(don't pour the water fully. Save a little to rinse the bowl later in step 5).
- Mix well without lumps and keep it ready. Open the pan lid once the carrot is almost cooked.
- Only very little water will be left in the pan with carrot. Now, give a brisk stir to the bowl containing porridge powder mixed water and pour it into the pan. Rinse the bowl with the remaining water and pour it into the pan.
- Add a pinch of turmeric powder(skip this if you've already added while making porridge powder). Cook in low-medium flame. Keep stirring continuously.
- Simmer, once it starts to thicken. Cook for a total of 5 minutes after adding porridge powder mix. Once thickened(it should still be moist), transfer to feeding bowl.
- Let it cool for 2 mins. Then feed immediately to baby as these khichdis will lose the moisture over time.
2.If you add 1 leveled tsp of porridge powder, then add ¼ cup of water as per this post.
3.If you add 1 heaped tsp of porridge powder, then add ⅓ cup of water.
4.You can also change the above mentioned water quantity as per the consistency required. But, make sure to cook for a minimum of 5 minutes after adding porridge powder.
5.Warning! Mother’s milk is sufficient for babies till 6 months. Start this food after completing 6 months.
