Serves: ¼ cup
  • Carrot - ¼
  • Ghee - ⅛ tsp
  • Water - ¼ cup + ¼ cup
  • Homemade porridge powder - 1 tsp(levelled)
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  1. Take ¼ carrot. Wash well and peel out the muddy marks of the skin. Grate the carrot using fine grater. In a dry pan, add little ghee.
  2. Saute grated carrots in ghee for 10 seconds and then add ¼ cup water.
  3. Cook closed in medium-high flame for 10 mins. Meanwhile, in a bowl, add a teaspoon of homemade "Rice & moong dal porridge powder" and ¼ cup water(don't pour the water fully. Save a little to rinse the bowl later in step 5).
  4. Mix well without lumps and keep it ready. Open the pan lid once the carrot is almost cooked.
  5. Only very little water will be left in the pan with carrot. Now, give a brisk stir to the bowl containing porridge powder mixed water and pour it into the pan. Rinse the bowl with the remaining water and pour it into the pan.
  6. Add a pinch of turmeric powder(skip this if you've already added while making porridge powder). Cook in low-medium flame. Keep stirring continuously.
  7. Simmer, once it starts to thicken. Cook for a total of 5 minutes after adding porridge powder mix. Once thickened(it should still be moist), transfer to feeding bowl.
  8. Let it cool for 2 mins. Then feed immediately to baby as these khichdis will lose the moisture over time.
1.No need to add salt. Salt is not recommended for babies below one year. Click here to know the reason.
2.If you add 1 leveled tsp of porridge powder, then add ¼ cup of water as per this post.
3.If you add 1 heaped tsp of porridge powder, then add ⅓ cup of water.
4.You can also change the above mentioned water quantity as per the consistency required. But, make sure to cook for a minimum of 5 minutes after adding porridge powder.
5.Warning! Mother’s milk is sufficient for babies till 6 months. Start this food after completing 6 months.
