Tomato Chutney Recipe – Stepwise pics follow the below printable description:
- Big onions - 2
- Tomatoes - 4
- Dry red chillies - 1 or 2
- Rock Salt - ¼ heaped tsp or as required
- Take equal quantities of onions and tomatoes. My onions were too big and so I required 4 tomatoes to equal the weight of onions. Don't worry if tomatoes weigh slightly more than the onions. Chop and keep ready. In a pan, add a tbsp of sesame/groundnut oil. Once hot, add 1 or 2 dry red chillies as per your spice level. As I am making for kids, I just added one.
- Add chopped onions and lil salt. Fry well in medium flame.
- Once onions start to change color slightly, add chopped tomatoes and fry well in medium flame. Stir often to avoid any burning..
- Once onions and tomatoes are fried well, transfer the fried contents to a plate and let it cool down. Once cooled to room temperature, transfer to mixie jar.
- Add rock salt(note that we already added lil salt while frying onions, so add accordingly) and grind to desired consistency. My kids love smooth chutney. Don't add any water while grinding. This chutney requires no tempering at all. Just relish with idli, dosa & paniyaram..
2.Do not add water at any stage in this chutney.
3.If you just add 1 dry red chilli, this chutney will be slightly sweet and spicy and so kids will love it a lot..
