Packed with nutrients and ability to digest easily, Pear is opted next to apples in babies first food list. Click here to view how to make apple puree ?
When introducing for the first time(6+ months) or for younger babies(<6 months), pear is boiled for easy digestion. For 6+ month babies, once tested for allergies with boiled pear, you shall start giving raw pear puree.
- Pear - half or less depending upon the size of pear
- Water - ¼ cup to ⅓ cup depending on stiffness of pear
- Wash a pear, peel the skin and cut half(or less) pear(leaving the center rim) into pieces as shown below.
- In a vessel, add pear pieces and pour water till pear pieces are half-immersed. Close with a lid and let it boil in medium flame until pear is cooked. It might take just 3 to 5 minutes depending on the ripeness of the pear.
- Once pear is cooked soft, switch off the stove and mash well with a potato masher, making sure there are no lumps left. Pick out the fiber strands(Naar in tamil), if any. For babies less than 6 months, you shall cool down and grind in mixie.
2.If the baby is below 6 months, you have to boil pear till the baby turns 6 months.. After 6 months, you can give raw pear puree(just mash the pear well). For babies who have exclusively breastfed for 6 months, you shall give boiled pear puree just for 1 week and then move to raw and well ripened pear.
3.Use mixie to blend only till 6 months.. Then you shall mash using potato masher as per this post.
4.Warning! Mother’s milk is sufficient for babies till 6 months. Think twice and discuss with your Paed before starting other food!

Disclaimer for color & texture differences in steps and main pictures – The main pic was taken few years before. I pureed it in mixie using red pear variety(I think). Step-wise pic was taken today(on the day of posting) as many moms requested me to post the type of potato masher I use for baby purees. This recipe was in my draft for so many years and only today, I got to post it !!
