This post is for babies who have completed 7 months and just starting their 8th month. Before reading this post, pls read my post on 6 months baby food chart for an overview about baby food. Click here for link.
After completing 6 months(180 days) of exclusive breastfeeding, on 7th month(running), I gave one food a day at brunch time. Now, after completing 7 months(210 days), on 8th month(running), I added one more meal. So, this month, I gave breakfast and late lunch. As I am still breastfeeding on demand, I just give 2 to 3 sips of water after every meal. Do not skip breastfeeding to give solid food. First breastfeed as usual and then give solid food after sometime. Give solids at least half-an hour to 45 minutes or even one hour after breastfeeding depending upon baby’s mood and appetite.
Below is my baby’s schedule for this month. This schedule is just for your reference. Please don’t try to fit your baby in this schedule. Let your baby decide his/her schedule to nap. And you choose a wise time (to feed solids) that suits you and your baby.

Some pointers to note…
- Coconut milk and chicken soup are just used as dip only. Do not feed the remaining coconut milk or soup to babies as it just fills their tiny tummies causing calories deficiency and also lowers breastmilk intake.
- In our Tamil families, Brinjal is generally not recommended for babies below 1 year, as they say it might cause itching for babies. But, WHO has recommended to give brinjal before 8 months as early introduction reduces any allergies in future. So, I just gave brinjal once at the end of this month and my baby was fine that day.
- New Spices added this month – Cardamom & Pepper powder.
- I started giving egg and chicken soup from this month. Discuss with your Pediatrician before giving egg as my baby had a bad experience(vomiting).
- If you have any queries, pls read this post(click here) on Frequently Asked Questions and that will have answers to most of your questions. This post details about my baby’s egg experience as well.

Hi Dear,
Can I give mutton soup instead of chicken soup with porridge
Thanks in advance.
You can give any soup..
Hi akka! Did you give the idli and fruits as such like in the picture or did you make it like a porridge consistency when feeding. I thought we need to follow the same consistency as 6 months food chart. Will it not choke the baby? Did you use spoon or hand while feeding idli akka? Thanks in advance
Fruits are too soft.. You can just slightly press the pieces with fingers while feeding.. I feed using hand..
Hello akka! How do you feed the baby idli and fruits. Do you mash it and feed with hand? What about fruit salad? Do you mash each fruit and feed? Pls help akka
I take each fruit in hand, press with fingers and just feed the baby using hand..
Thanks akka ☺️ I have one more doubt. Can I give spinach, sago, curd, orange during winter season. My baby is 7 months now. I haven’t introduced these foods as my family is saying that baby might catch cold
You can give in all sesaons.. In fact, orange has vitamin C which is good to give to babies when baby has cold.. Freshly made curd(not refrigerated) doesn’t cause cold. Spinach doesnt cause cold, but we don’t give it to babies on the days when we give them hair bath and that is said just for digestion. Sago can be given once in a week..
Mam, I have a doubt. Is it not mandatory to follow 3 days rule to check whether food is allergic to baby?
No, not required. To know more about it, pls read this link – https://www.myhealthykiddo.com/frequently-asked-questions-about-baby-food-faqs/
Aka, how do you feed idli and those sides like potatoes and cauliflower you added along with rice ? Baby will directly have it from bowl or you ll feed by hand?
Pls watch my recent video on baby led weaning for these info – https://youtu.be/q1ZtjPIL5vY
We usually add salt to the idli dosa batter before letting it ferment. Should I avoid adding salt in idli batter for a baby less than a year old?
yes, no salt in idli batter as well.. Please read in this post – https://www.myhealthykiddo.com/frequently-asked-questions-about-baby-food-faqs/
When did you introduce nuts to baby and how?
You can see what I introduced daily in my food charts. I introduce nuts in 7 months
